The Wildlife Trust
The Blow’s Downs Nature Reserve is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), managed by the Wildlife Trust for Beds, Cambs & Northants, in order to protect nature and prevent its decline. When three more acres were added to compensate for habitat loss caused by a new public transport route, we were asked to produce illustrated visitor interpretation boards for four different areas of the site.
Each board was designed to highlight different aspects of the site, including its wildlife, history, and landscape. Working from photos and maps of the area, and my own research findings (including a lot of detective work), I tracked down all the necessary information before moving into the creative phase and devising an illustration style to show in detail how to identify particular species of plants, birds, and animals. The aim was to bring everything to life for visitors at all times of year, including the middle of winter.

The client was thrilled with the result, telling us ‘they look amazing’. They proudly shared photos of the site with us, adding: ‘Thanks for all your work on this; we hope these make you smile’.
